The Project
The Penguin Society is a community dedicated to sharing and spreading content about technology, Linux, and free software.
The project required a website to serve as a hub for articles, tech news, and promotion of their free YouTube courses. My primary objective was the successful development and deployment of this platform using WordPress.
Initial Research
I maintained constant engagement with the client to define the overall site vision, color scheme, and the crucial content organization needed for the new online hub.
The primary aesthetic requirement was a dark-themed interface, echoing a code terminal look. This visual direction was to strictly incorporate the pre-existing brand palette from their social media presence.

Configuration and Design
Style Guide
In every project, I establish a dedicated page for the site’s Design System/Style Guide (including colors, typography, and components). This ensures streamlined maintenance and allows for efficient, global design updates.
WordPress Structure
I prepared an organized structure that simplifies both content creation on the site and long-term maintenance. Below are some key aspects of the structure I built:

Security
To enhance security and minimize attack surface, plugins like Solid Security were deployed, alongside the installation of a two-factor authentication (2FA) system.

I implemented the foundational setup of Google Analytics and Tag Manager for site traffic logging and performance monitoring.

As a result of the SEO and design optimizations, the site experienced outstanding performance in its first month, with increased traffic and higher user engagement.

Final Project Delivery
The website delivery took slightly over a month, as this is a volunteer project where I dedicated a few hours per week. The team provided positive feedback, and the site is now live, featuring articles and courses ready for access.
I remain actively involved in the project, with future plans focused on strengthening security, monitoring site access, and analyzing user visits to the portal.
Additional Materials
My deliverables extended beyond the website, including essential graphic assets like the brand style guide and the community’s mascot. This character is intended for use in all general posts and communications.

Career Development
My core learnings from this project involve applying agile methodologies for task control and cultivating strong collaboration within a small content production team.
From a technical standpoint, I enhanced my process for blog building, configuring access tracking (data capture), and understanding WordPress security systems.
